Assistive Communication Technologies

Tecnologias de Apoio à Comunicação

Assistive Communication Technologies: At APCM, everyone has a voice!

We have a support product allocation system that includes several services accompanying the entire process — from assessment and prescription to the acquisition of mobility, hygiene, feeding, and communication products. These products promote autonomy, proper positioning, and mobility while preventing deformities in individuals with neuromotor conditions.

At APCM, we believe that every person has the right to communicate, express themselves, and actively participate in their environment, regardless of their motor or communication limitations. Therefore, we provide and promote training with alternative communication systems integrated into tablets, adapted to the individual needs of each user.

These systems allow people with complex communication needs to use pre-prepared content tailored to their daily contexts — whether at the institution, at home, or during social activities. The tablets serve as facilitators of interaction, ensuring that each person’s voice can be heard.

Assistive Technologies and Computer Access

In addition to touch-screen communication systems, we offer various alternative access solutions for computers and tablets:

Eye gaze access: the user controls the device solely through eye movements, using eye-tracking technology.

Switches: ideal for those who have difficulties controlling their hands and arms.

Joysticks and trackballs: adapted options for more precise and comfortable control.

Head pointers and articulated arms: for typing or navigation when there is paralysis of the upper limbs.

Each solution is personalized and designed according to the specific abilities and needs of each individual, ensuring greater autonomy, participation, and quality of life.

In summary, at APCM, we offer a wide range of assistive products for communication and accessibility, always supported by continuous technical guidance.

Residential Structure for People with Disabilities

Estrutura Residencial para a Pessoa com Deficiência

Intended for citizens with cerebral palsy or similar neurological conditions, aged 18 or over, who are unable to live with their families due to various circumstances, the Residential Home offers accommodation on a permanent and/or temporary basis.

Inspired by a family-like environment, the APCM Residential Home aims to promote autonomy and well-being among its 49 permanent residents. In addition, it provides one place for temporary accommodation, which is essential in cases of illness or when caregivers need rest. The facility operates continuously, 24 hours a day, throughout the entire year.

The Residential Structure prioritizes the admission of individuals from dysfunctional family backgrounds, those with social and/or economic difficulties, whose caregivers or close family members are aging, those with high levels of dependency, or those who have been abandoned or lack family support.
